What Is Life Actually Like With a Weekly Personal Chef?
Hiring a personal chef sounds pretty great. Someone comes to your house, cooks a bunch of food, and leaves you with a full refrigerator. Hard to argue with that. A fridge full of food doesn't mean everything else magically gets better. You still have work. The kids still need rides. The dog still needs the vet. Someone will still tell you at 8:00 p.m. that they need something for school tomorrow. But it does mean one thing: you don't have to think about dinner. Not planning it, not shopping for it, not cooking it, not cleaning up after it. And it turns out that one thing changes more of your week than you'd expect.
You stop starting from zero every week
Think about how many times you currently think about dinner before you actually eat it. What are we having? Do we have groceries? Who's going to be home? What will the kids eat? Didn't we just have tacos? When am I going to get to the store? With JTI, your chef does that thinking. We start with your Food Questionnaire, then use your preferences, feedback, and what we've learned about your family to build your weekly menu. You get to review it and can make a tweak if needed, but you don't have to come up with it. Then your chef shops, comes to your home, cooks your meals, packages and labels everything, provides digital finishing instructions, cleans the chef workspace, and leaves.
You open the refrigerator. Dinner's just... there.
Your chef starts to know your family
We start with a lot of information, but the service becomes more personal as we learn how your family actually eats. Your chef starts knowing which meals disappear first. We learn how much food you actually need. We figure out whether your family likes lots of variety or would happily see a favorite meal come back around. And sometimes your chef notices something you haven't even thought to mention, or would've taken you three more weeks to bring up.
We love hearing your feedback. We also just pay attention. Sometimes that means catching something before you'd even think to mention it.
Someone else is paying attention
Recently, one of our chefs noticed that a family's freezer meals weren't getting eaten. Nothing was wrong with the meals. The client hadn't complained. They just... weren't eating them. The chef mentioned it to me, and we started thinking about what might be more useful. Instead of continuing to make something that was sitting in their freezer, we suggested trying a healthy grab-and-go breakfast option.
We're also thinking differently about what kinds of freezer meals might work better for them, including options that don't require remembering to thaw something the day before. We've changed a few details here for privacy, but yes, this really happened. I think it's such a good example of what personal means to us. The client didn't have to notice the problem, come up with an alternative, and tell us how to fix it. We were paying attention.
Life will still be life
Schedules change. Kids change. Travel happens. Preferences change. Some weeks are completely normal and others go sideways before Monday afternoon. A personal chef isn't going to make any of that disappear. But every week, there's one question you don't have to keep answering: what's for dinner? And maybe that's the real difference. Having a weekly personal chef doesn't make your life less busy. It makes one part of your busy life not your job anymore. 6pm changes here. What would it feel like to have dinner handled?
