Is a Personal Chef Worth It for a Busy Family?
Let’s start with the obvious: hiring a personal chef is more expensive than cooking dinner yourself.
So if you’re considering one, the real question probably isn’t “Is a personal chef cheaper?” It’s “Would having this part of my life handled be worth it?”
For many busy families, the answer comes down to what dinner is costing you. Not just in dollars, but in time, energy, decision-making, and the 5:37 p.m. realization that the chicken you planned to cook is still frozen.
Start with what dinner actually requires
Cooking is only one piece of feeding a family. Before anyone sits down to eat, someone has usually had to:
● Figure out what everyone will eat
● Plan meals for the week
● Keep track of preferences and dietary needs
● Make the grocery list
● Shop
● Prep and cook
● Clean everything up
● And then start thinking about tomorrow
If you enjoy doing all of that and have the time for it, a personal chef may not be worth the investment for you. If you don’t enjoy it, please accept my apologies for the list that may now be haunting you.
Seriously, though, if dinner is consistently competing with work, kids, activities, appointments, travel, and everything else you’re managing, outsourcing it can give you back more than just the hour you would have spent standing at the stove.
What are you actually buying?
With Just Table It, you’re not simply paying someone to cook a few meals. You’re paying for a weekly personal chef service built to make feeding your family easier.
We learn how your household eats, build your menus, shop for your groceries, cook in your home, package and label your meals, provide digital finishing instructions, and clean the chef workspace before we leave. Your JTI chef also gets to know your family over time, while our systems and team keep track of the details behind the scenes.
In other words, you’re buying back time, but you’re also buying back brain space. You don’t have to spend Tuesday afternoon wondering what to make Tuesday night.
It can also change the way your family actually eats
When life gets busy, convenience usually wins. And sometimes convenience looks like takeout, cereal, frozen chicken nuggets, or everyone eating something different. No judgment. We’ve all had those weeks.
Having meals already prepared means the easy option can also be the meal you actually wanted your family to eat. Instead of asking, “What can I pull together tonight?” you can open the refrigerator and see dinner waiting.
It’s a pretty nice problem to no longer have.
“Worth it” looks different for every family
Depending on your family, it might mean:
● Getting several hours back every week that you would have spent planning, shopping, cooking, and cleaning
● Knowing there’s real food in the refrigerator when everyone gets home at different times
● Ordering less takeout because there wasn’t a plan
● Eating more variety without having to hunt for new recipes yourself
● Having meals that account for allergies or dietary needs without having to adapt everything yourself
● Getting part of your weekend back instead of spending it meal planning and grocery shopping
● Having food ready on the nights when everyone is going in six different directions
● Not being the only person thinking about what everyone is going to eat
And sometimes the benefit is simply walking into your kitchen, opening the refrigerator, and thinking, “Yes! Dinner’s handled!”
So, is a personal chef worth it?
A personal chef isn’t right for everyone. But if you’re short on time, tired of figuring out what’s for dinner, or simply ready to hand off one big recurring job, it can make a pretty significant difference in your week. Maybe the better question is:
What would you do with all the time and energy you are not spending on dinner?
